How to Find the Self-Confidence That Went Missing: Helpful Suggestions
You may assume that the person writing this “How To” is an expert on the subject of Self-Confidence….I am not! This is my pain point!
After my twenties, Huge Doubts plopped itself down on a couch in the dark, dank living room of my ego. Any time I thought of doing something courageous in pursuit of my dream, Doubt sat up and wagged a warning finger -
“Don’t get your hopes up, girly. You know what happens.”
So, I spent decades in retreat, amassing all kinds of anxiety, waiting until I felt more confident to begin again. Have you ever made that kind of deal with yourself - that as soon as you fix the bad feelings you have around your ability, you will begin to create/ contribute/serve?
So many of us feel we have a greater mission beyond the accomplishments of the past, but we are thwarted by excruciating self-doubt. Here’s a thing to consider: It’s time to get over it. The world needs all of us, participating full on, giving everything we can to save the planet and each other, and most of all, ourselves.
Here’s where the Dalai Lama weighs in:
QUOTE 1:“With the realization of one’s own potential and self-confidence in one’s ability, one can build a better world.“ -Dalai Lama
How? How do we access the self-confidence that was ever, barely there?
QUOTE 2: Through realizing our Divine connection, we understand that we are never alone and we are always guided. We become fearless.
Admit that you need more self-confidence and that you are willing to work on it.
Don’t make this problem bigger than you. Think of it as an affliction like Stage Fright - something that can be overcome, IF you are willing. You have to be willing.
“Self-confidence is my gift to myself. I am excited to receive it!”
Define what confidence means to you.
To me, it simply means showing up where ever I choose to show up, exhuberantly sharing my unique gifts without comparing myself to others.
Make a vital and dynamic connection to your Faith. Make Faith your partner and lover.
QUOTE 3: “The amazing thing about Faith is… She already knows and celebrates that you have achieved your goal.
QUOTE 4: Team up with Faith. She will stay with you, no matter what.”
If you love angels or are angel-curious, this brief interview will inspire you. Calista is an award-winning author, pioneer of spiritual ascension and a magical leader who truly walks her talk.
In this 35 second clip, she talks about connecting to the Female Archangels - called the Archaeia - who embody the virtues we need to call forth within ourselves. One is called Faith.
If this material resonates with you, I highly recommend Calista’s beautiful book, The Female Archangels: Evolutionary Teachings To Heal & Empower Your Life.
If you could not embrace the female archangelic references above, let’s consider what your Faith means, in everyday language, in an everyday situation. Endow yourself with a vision of something powerful that you want to to live into, with the help of the Divine.
“I have faith in my capacity to create my best life with the support of the Divine.” p.26
QUOTE 5: “Faith is knowing that at some point, it’s gonna be okay. Hold this point of faith as a light held bravely aloft. You will find your way through this. We are with you.”
What if the seed of your self-confidence is knowing that you matter?
Yes, YOU. Your comings and goings, how you create and interact with others, how you live, that you live, right here and now, on our beautiful, ailing Mother Earth.
Here’s message that came through to me, that ended up in my book:
QUOTE 6: “We the angels see you as an important piece of the puzzle. Just as all the pieces matter, without you, there is a gap.”
In the same way…
QUOTE 7: “Your energy - your capacity to love and connect with others - creates a grid of light and consciousness that allows ideas to flow and hearts to be lifted and Great GOOD to be created.”
What if your open heart and willingness to serve - the energy that comes through you - IS the most important piece of the puzzle that you contribute?
Where are you conscious of this in your life?
Creating a secure connection to your inner guidance and wisdom is key to staying poised and strong and confident.
QUOTE 9: You don’t have to know everything. You have to be willing to ask for direction and listen carefully, along the path.
I open to feel and receive Divine guidance. The more I relax and trust, the clearer my channel will be.

Make it your business to build your courage.
One of the top takeaways from a wonderful TedX talk with Cindy Solomon on “How to Build Your Courage” was “Think of the best thing that can happen” when you contemplate taking action. Your fearful ego will immediately grasp onto the worst scenario. Don’t listen!
Take small concrete steps. Be accountable to someone. Ask for support and give it.
QUOTE 10: “Life shrinks or expands in proportion to one’s courage.” -Anais Nin
QUOTE 11: Imagine the sound of a thousand Angels clapping softly with love and appreciation, grateful tears in their eyes. They see your courage. p.115
Speaking of angels…
You may have read in a previous blog about my amazingly talented mum, Sylvia Myers Willoughby, who celebrated her first solo art show at age 92.
For nearly 91 years, she painted and assumed she wasn’t as good as the others. Thank the heavens that she got her chance to show her work and receive compliments (and sales!) before she passed away. And so many people are still enjoying her gorgeous work.
I wish for you, the delight and satisfaction that my mom felt. And I dearly hope that you will not wait until you are over 90.
You can do this. You can recover your shining confidence and forge ahead. No matter how deeply doubtful you are, start taking steps, ask for support and guidance from your angels, stay calm and keep going. The world will be a better place for it.
Onward with Divine guidance, courage and confidence,
